Aurora Expeditions has today announced it has entered into an agreement with shipbuilder Sunstone to build a second X-Bow expedition ship, for delivery in spring 2021.
Sister ship to the soon-to-be-launched Greg Mortimer, the second purpose built expedition vessel will be similar in design, and feature the industry-transforming X-Bow technology; an inverted bow concept that allows for gentler sea crossings, reduced emissions and improved comfort.
Aurora Expeditions is the first cruise operator to utilise this state-of-the-art technology created by leading Norwegian ship designer Ulstein, redefining the future of expedition cruising.
Managing Director of Aurora Expeditions Robert Halfpenny is thrilled to announce the addition of a second X-Bow ship following the exceptional popularity of voyages onboard the Greg Mortimer.
“Our demand has been phenomenal; with a virtually sold out upcoming Antarctica 19/20 season and at 60% capacity already for the Antarctica 20/21 season, we are excited at the prospect of being able to offer more capacity to the market. We have been forced to turn away some passengers who are eager to join Aurora Expeditions onboard the Greg Mortimer, so we are delighted to offer our customers another great ship,” Robert said.
”The yet-to-be-named ship will launch out of Ushuaia in spring 2021, ahead of the 2021/22 Antarctic season. News on the new name will be released shortly.
