Stayz have revealed the top 20 holiday homes for 2020 in their ninth annual Holiday Homes of the Year Awards. Showcasing the country’s most popular stays, Australia’s original holiday rental website have crunched the numbers and revealed the most booked and best reviewed properties of the past year. The overall winner is set to be announced later this week.
The majority of holiday homes (95 per cent) are located in regional Australia or outside the city centres proving the popularity of road trips this year. Amongst the top 20, seven properties are from Victoria and the same amount from NSW. Queensland and Tasmania are both home to two finalists whilst Western Australia and South Australia are each home to one.
Featured in the list are two properties in Halls Gap – the gateway to the Grampians National Park in Victoria. That State was shortlisted for five additional properties including a three-storey log cabin with a ‘train house’ in Forrest, a health retreat in Daylesford, a home in Dandenongs, an apartment on the Mornington Peninsula and ‘The Pole House’ on the Great Ocean Road. This iconic property is suspended 40 metres above Fairhaven Beach and can only be accessed from a 23 metre walkway. Scoppa says she hopes making seven of the top 20 properties will help shine a light on Victorian destinations as the State prepares to reopen.
New South Wales is also home to seven finalists including a pet friendly cottage in Berry, a beachside studio in Bundeena, a Bondi Penthouse, a family home at Pretty Beach, a Mudgee cottage and two South Coast properties in Scarborough and Gerroa.
In South Australia, a used shipping container made the national list. ‘The Cube’ on the Murray River is a floating pod that accommodates two people and promises you can sit on the deck and dip your toes in the water. Recent guests have praised the property for its romantic location with one couple honeymooning at The Cube recently.
Further north in Queensland, an idyllic Whitsundays property and a log cabin in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland made the top 20 list. In Tasmania, a renovated cray fisherman’s shack and a beach side holiday home on Bruny Island made the list, while our friends over West celebrate a holiday home nestled in Yallingup Hills, a community in the city of Busselton – an experience that flaunts the contemporary interpretation of traditional rural style.
The release of the shortlist serves a reminder to Aussies who are yet to cement their summer holiday plans. With many of the top 20 already sold out for Christmas, Scoppa is urging families to get in now to lock away their holiday homes.
