Celebrate 200 years of Antarctica and walk in the footsteps of intrepid explorers with Incredible Adventure Tour

Travellers have the opportunity to explore the vast and varied continent of Antarctic on the 200th anniversary of its discovery with adventure travel specialists Wildfoot Travel.

In 1820 a Russian expedition led by Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev discovered an ice shelf at Princess Martha Coast, the first explorers to officially discover the continent of Antarctica. Now, 200 years later, intrepid travellers will have the opportunity to fully explore the wonders of Antarctica and the breath-taking wildlife on the Antarctic Explorer Expedition.

Winding through the South Shetland Islands towards the Antarctic Peninsula, the small expedition ship will allow travellers to discover the area’s beautiful wildlife, gorgeous scenery and step foot on the largest ice shelf in the world.

Travellers will embark from Ushuaia, heading south towards the Shetland Islands and through the Beagle Channel, leaving civilisation far behind. Two days will be spent sailing through Drake Passage, allowing guests to spend time on deck enjoying searching for the abundant seabirds that follow the ship. Here, the expedition team will begin their programme of informative lectures covering everything from the wildlife and geology of Antarctica to historic polar exploration.

After traversing the Drake Passage and Antarctic Convergence, travellers will reach the white continent and begin their exploration of Antarctica. Throughout their time in Antarctica, they will experience expeditions by both land and sea. Each day guests can explore the surrounding area by Zodiac boat, discovering multiple bays, channels and landing sites, while always on the lookout for humpback and minke whales, seals and penguin rookeries.

Following in the footsteps of explorers from years past, visitors will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of adventure experiences. There are ample opportunities for hikes and walks on land and the majesty of the Antarctic Peninsula’s mountains will encourage travellers to scramble up snowy pathways to vantage points that offer panoramic views. There’s also the opportunity to take a Polar Plunge into the frigid Antarctic waters as well as camping on the ice under the stars.

Wildfoot Travel are an adventure travel company dedicated to wildlife conservation and the protection of the environment, while also exploring some of the most remote and interesting locations around the world. They pride themselves on providing out of the ordinary travel experiences, making them the perfect people to help plan an incredible trip of a lifetime to the isolated, far-flung corners of the world.

The Antarctic Explorer Expedition is a life-changing adventure that will see travellers walk in the footsteps of famous explorers as they discover the vast continent on the 200th anniversary of its discovery.

The Antarctic Explorer Expedition is priced from £5,900 per person, including full board accommodation, group transfers, all excursions, and programme of expert lectures.
