Viking releases brand-new 12-day Munich to Budapest river cruise

Viking has released a brand-new Danube River cruise/tour, Oberammergau with Salzburg, departing from Munich and disembarking in Budapest.

On board this new 12-day cruise/tour, guests will explore the historic German state of Bavaria including one night in its biggest city Munich, known for its beautiful architecture, cultural scene and annual Oktoberfest beer celebration, and two nights in Austria’s stunning city of Salzburg – the birthplace of Mozart and the filming location for The Sound of Music.

In Germany’s charming town of Oberammergau, guests will enjoy a powerful performance of Passionsspiele, The Passion Play – an opportunity that only comes along once a decade. The play’s origins date back to 1633 when the Great Plague descended upon the village and many lives were lost. The villagers made a promise to God that they would tell the story of Christ every tenth year if they were spared from the Plague, and the tradition still continues today.

This new itinerary is based on Viking’s popular Danube Waltz cruise and operates only in one direction. It includes one night in a Munich hotel, one night in a hotel near Oberammergau and two nights in Salzburg.

There are 11 departure dates for Oberammergau with Salzburg between May and September 2020. Priced from $6,995 per person, guests can save $1,000 per couple and fly to Europe for $995 per person if they book before 30 November 2018 (unless sold out prior).
