As solo travel soars in popularity, European Waterways is enjoying record bookings among outgoing single travellers and is waiving the single supplement fee on more than 40 departures in 2019.
The cruise regions include Burgundy and the Canal du Midi in France, Venice and the Po Valley in Italy, the rugged Highlands of Scotland, and a tulip cruise in Holland. Eligible cruises are available from April through July 2019, with savings of up to $3,520. The special offer cannot be combined with other offers and additional restrictions may apply.
Derek Banks, managing director of European Waterways, noted that the growing presence of solo travellers on European Waterways cruises provide a lively addition to the unique mix of international guests who share gourmet meals onboard, as well as exclusive excursions to castles, chateaux, local markets, and wineries, among other attractions.
According to Derek Banks, managing director of European Waterways, the company has seen a 50% increase in solo travellers in the past two years.
“Our floating boutique hotels hold just six to 12 guests, making them ideal for single travellers,” said Banks. “The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with all excursions and special events done as a group. All our guests dine together, swapping stories and making new friends as they enjoy the regional cuisine and fine wines served by an attentive crew.”
In France, eligible cruises include La Belle Époque and L’Impressionniste in Burgundy; Enchante on the Canal du Midi; Rosa in Gascony; and Panache in Champagne and Alsace & Loraine. Panache also offers a special cruise in Holland. Other cruises offering single supplement waivers include La Bella Vita in Venice and the Po Valley. European Waterways’ largest vessel, La Bella Vita offers ample cabin options with a capacity of up to 20 passengers. On the Caledonian Canal at the heart of the Scottish Highlands, the Spirit of Scotland is also waiving the single supplement on select departures.
